The route to Tegueste, a bygone era
Part of this route passes through the shade of forest trees. Part of this lush forest is the result of tree plantations that have taken place in the last 40 years, changing the aspect of the area.
Some of the most emblematic species we will see on the first part of the route are: tilos, viñátigos and laurels (species of the Laurisilva Forest), while on the second part of the path we will find the Monterrey pines (planted for exploitation purposes) substituting the farms of the place. Since a few years ago there is a reforestation project which aims to change the pine forest into a laurisilva forest, in order to recover the old ecosystem of the area.
The route finishes at the Municipality of Tegueste, so-called after the pre-hispanic Mencey (king) that ruled the place before the Spanish conquer. Tegueste is a still a rural place, with a landscape covered by noumerous vineyards, where grows different canarian grapes which are used to produce the Tacoronte – Acentejo wines.
