Tenerife Walking Festival has set the “zero footprint” commitment as one of its environmental objectives. This label allows us to know all greenhouse gas emissions produced by the event. All the activities that are organised by the festival both in organisation and development are considered in this calculation. For accurate CO2 emission measurement it is necessary to analyse all potential sources in detail (transport, electricity consumption, etc.). The main source will be the one linked to air transport and the guests’ stay in hotel accommodations.
This emission calculation, made by the company AGRESTA Sociedad Cooperativa, is held every year in order to offset the effects of the Festival on our planet’s health. Knowing the carbon footprint Tenerife Walking Festival can consider measures that result in reducing CO2 emissions in future events as well as compensating the footprint by planting native tree species on the island of Tenerife. One the talks to be held during the 3 day – event will give a brief statement of the objectives of calculating the carbon footprint, a preview of the results, and possible measures can be implemented in order to reduce those emissions.
